Review locations of bathrooms & water fountain 

8:40-9:00 Orientation (Team Leader/Facilitator) 

Introduction of Team Leader/Facilitator 

Purpose & Objectives of the Welcoming Schools Walkthrough 

Participant Introductions- Share name and “Why did you say yes to being part of this team?” 

Overview of the component teams (Physical Environment, Practices & Policies, Culture & Climate, Home/ School Communication) 

Create Teams 

Overview of the Process and Scoring 

Time for teams to review indicators 

9:00-10:00 Walkthrough (Component Teams) 

Physical Environment Team- Use the Physical Environment Tool to walk the common areas of the inside and outside of the building. 

Practices and Policies Team- Use the Practices and Policies Tool to interview an administrator 

Culture and Climate Team- Use the Culture and Climate Tool while walking through school halls and common areas and main office. 

Home/School Communication Team- Use the Home/School Communication Tool to review the school website and written, printed, or digital communications 

10:00-10:15 Component Team Discussions (Team Reporters) 

Review individual scores and determine a group score for each indicator. 

Discuss and arrive at consensus on 3-5 areas of strength and 3-5 areas with recommendations. 

Record your recommendations on chart paper. 

Select one member of the team to report to the whole group. 

10:15-10:50 Wrap-Up Discussion (Team Leader/Facilitator) 

Each team reports out on the 3-5 areas of strength and 3-5 areas with recommendations 

Each participant gets to vote for their top 5 recommendations 

Principal returns to listen to each group share the highlights of their charts and votes without responding. 

Participants are given an opportunity for Q&A. 

10:50-11:00 Conclusion and Next Steps 

Principal thanks participants for their work and lets them know what the next steps will be for the school.
