BACKGROUND
When schools create welcoming environments, they become inviting places where students want to learn, employees want to work, and families want to be involved. Strong family involvement is a major focus of educational institutions today. This principle is based on the premise that families have a tremendous impact on their children’s academic success.
At ____________________ School, the initiative is aligned to the School Improvement Plan. The goals of the Welcoming Schools Initiative are:

PROCESS
A Welcoming Walkthrough Team composed of both families, community members, and staff gathered observation/interview data about the physical environment, practices and policies, school culture and climate and home / school communication. Four smaller Component Teams discussed their observations and came to consensus about strengths and recommendations. (Optional: Surveys were distributed to staff and parents in the school/program. ___ parents and ___staff completed surveys.) This information is summarized in the following report.
Action Plan
For those items that need more resources and planning, complete an Action Plan. An Action Plan may be included as a part of the Welcoming School Summary Report. Creating an Action Plan provides an opportunity to involve other stakeholders beyond the team of people who conducted the Walkthrough – for example, the principal, the School Governance Council or the School Improvement Team.
Look across all four Component Team Reporting Forms (and family and staff surveys, if used) and identify those recommendations that require additional planning and resources in order to be implemented. Use the form below to create a plan to accomplish this. In your plan include a timeline, who will take responsibility, necessary resources and measures that will let you know if the activities were successful.
